If your fashion taste generally sees you lean more towards neutrals than neons, you're probably all over the butter yellow trend. While chocolate brown has reigned supreme within this space over autumn/winter, yellow is the new neutral in town that's ready to usurp the hue for spring/summer.
No you're not hallucinating, we are recommending that you take your sartorial cues from every bread roll's best friend. Because whether it's spread across some sourdough, melting into a pile of new potatoes or taking the form of a sexy, silky slip dress, there's little more delicious than butter.
And it seems some of the industry's biggest names are also on something of a dairy high right now, with everyone from Louis Vuitton to Chanel and Jacquemus showcasing variations of the trend on their recent runways. Not to mention; Katie Holmes is a huge fan.
Butter yellow is, however, no new trend. Givenchy, Zimmermann, Tove, Cecilie Bahnsen, Christopher Kane and A.W.A.K.E. Mode all showcased a heavy dose of butter throughout their autumn/winter 2023 shows – AKA over two years ago – suggesting that you needn't worry about this being a fleeting movement. It's one that's here to stay.
Not entirely convinced? Understandable. Yellow is not a colour that many of us find easy to wear, however, this softer, more muted and pastel version completely transforms it and renders it genuinely universally flattering.
Four members of the GLAMOUR team recently put it to the test to prove exactly that, and the verdict was unanimous: it's a yes from us.

Far easier to wear than other pastels, with its close likeness to an off-white shade allowing it to be considered a neutral and therefore an easy pairing piece, butter yellow goes with everything from olive greens to pastel pinks, whites, navies, violets and even metallics. There's quite literally no colour that's off-bounds when it comes to putting a look together with this hue.
There is, however, one way to wear it that outranks all others, and that's via a full head-to-toe stick of butter moment. It's show-stopping and hypnotic in the most subtle of ways, and is an easy way to elevate an outfit if you're not in the mood for anything too ‘look-at-me’.
Even the oat-milk-obsessed, dairy-free among us are finding it difficult to resist this one…
