Almost 15 years since we were first introduced to Westeros, we’re heading back for a brand-new story. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms takes us into familiar, deadly territory, but with a completely new cast of characters.
The Targaryens are still ruling, as seen in House of the Dragon, but their iconic dragons are nowhere in sight. Instead, this unlikely duo — taking inspiration from fan-favourite pairings like Arya and the Hound or Jaime and Brienne — will navigate treacherous lands, face deadly foes, and uncover secrets that could shake the Seven Kingdoms to its core.
Streaming bosses know we don't stop scrolling when we watch TV, and it's led to a “dumbing down” of content. Look closer at Stranger Things and Harlan Coben's Run Away.

And if the trailer is anything to go by, expect plenty of the nudity, violence and raunch that Game of Thrones fans have come to know and love. Here’s everything we know so far about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, including when and where you can watch it in the UK.

What is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms about?
Here’s HBO’s official take: “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wander Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon hasn’t yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
How is it connected to the Game of Thrones story?
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms follows the adventures, and misadventures, of hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg. Who are these people? Well, if you’ve only watched Game of Thrones, you’ve never met them as they weren’t in the main series, though this is very much a Game of Thrones story.
The series is a prequel, set 70 years after House of the Dragon and a full century before the events of the original show.
So did the producers just make this up? Not at all. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is adapted from George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, and Martin himself is thrilled with the adaptation: “I’m very glad that Dunk and Egg are gonna exist in the world, because I love these characters, and I think other people will love them, too.”
The novellas include The Hedge Knight (which doubles as the title of episode one), The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight. Season one is expected to follow the first book, where Dunk fakes his way into knighthood, enters a tourney, and eventually takes Egg on as his squire — kicking off a journey full of unlikely heroics, political intrigue, and Westerosi drama.
Where can I watch the Game of Thrones spin-off series?
Just like Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will air on Sky Atlantic and stream on Now TV. Episodes will be available on demand from the early hours of Monday mornings starting today (January 19), with evening broadcasts on TV.
For Now TV viewers, access requires a subscription to the Entertainment package.
How many episodes will there be?
Unlike Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will have a more bite-sized run: just six episodes, each lasting between 30 and 40 minutes. Perfect for a quick dive into Westeros without committing to years of viewing.

What's the big secret twist in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms? (Spoiler)
SPOILER ALERT. Stop here if you want to stay in the dark.
The major twist in the first novella?
Egg… is actually Aegon V Targaryen.
He serves as Duncan’s squire to gain perspective on the “real” world and build character, learning life lessons far from the politics of the court. Eventually, he unexpectedly ascends the Iron Throne after his father’s death, stepping into the deadly game of thrones himself.
Who is Aegon V Targaryen? The fifteenth king of the Targaryen dynasty to rule the Seven Kingdoms, and the father of the Mad King and his sister-wife Queen Rhaella.
