I Love LA season 2 was announced before the first season even concluded, much to the surprise of absolutely no one. The show became one of the “fastest-growing original comedies” on HBO, averaging nearly two million “cross-platform viewers” in the US after its debut, prompting news of season two's renewal news in November 2025 during HBO’s 2026 slate presentation in New York City.
The show’s creator, Rachel Sennott (best known for Shiva Baby and Bottoms), and her merry band of young Hollywood scene stealers star in the Los Angeles–based comedy that has been widely described as Girls for Gen Z, though Sennott (born in 1995) prefers “Entourage for internet It girls.” Sennott leads the cast as Maia, an easily frazzled talent manager who lands the client of her nightmares in her old college frenemy, Tallulah (Odessa A’zion), a messy social media influencer who may or may not be a kleptomaniac.
But really, like many beloved ensemble comedies, I Love LA is mainly about a dysfunctional group of friends — in this case, made up of LA transplants and one Hollywood nepo baby (played delightfully by Forrest Whitaker’s daughter True Whitaker) — navigating life in their late 20s.
Oh, and did we mention Peeta Mellark Josh Hutcherson secured his most charming role to date as Maia’s underappreciated boyfriend, Dylan, who is forced to endure the tornado that is Maia and Tallulah’s toxic friendship? Now you know.
So, what’s in store for I Love LA season 2? Here’s everything we know so far:
Has I Love LA has been renewed for season 2?
Yes, that’s the whole point of this article. HBO announced the renewal on November 20, describing the show as its “second top freshman comedy in platform history.”
How many episodes of I Love LA season 2 will there be?
Again, there’s no telling what Sennott has planned for season two, though the first season was made up of eight episodes, so expect the order to be somewhere around that number.
Who will return for I Love LA season 2?
At the end of the first season, Maia quits her job working for Alyssa (Leighton Meester), so we may not be seeing more of her or her hilariously upbeat assistant Courtney (Lauren Holt), but there’s no reason not to expect the rest of the cast. That list includes Sennott, A’zion, Whitaker, Hutcherson, and Jordan Firstman, who plays Maia’s close friend and celebrity stylist, Charlie.
There's also the small matter of Elijah Wood's cameo — could we see more of his character, or other potential celebrity cameos in season two? If his hilariously self-deprecating performance is anything to go by, we hope so.
The real question is whether we will get another cameo from Ayo Edebiri as pop sensation Mimi Rush. If so, we will need to get Zendaya on board to play her mother in that music video, of course.
Obviously, the plot could go absolutely anywhere, but season one rounded up with (spoilers ahead!) Maia quitting her job at Alyssa 180, but she's not so keen on working for her old boss, Ben, and his ulterior motives. Maia's love life is having much luck either, with her having taken a break from her relationship with Dylan. On the bright side, however, she and Tallulah are stronger than ever, so we can expect their friendship to be delved into in season two. And here's hoping we get some drama when Dylan's hook-up with Claire comes to light. Watch this space…
