Leomie Anderson | 5 Feminist Commandments
Released on 05/01/2025
My mum's ultimate advice that she gave me
when I was just 14 years old and got signed,
These people are not your friends.
Hi Glamour, it's Leomie Anderson here
and I'm here with my five feminist commandments.
Number one definitely has to be,
don't let anybody dictate what you wear.
I think that what you wear is an expression
of yourself and no one should shame you
or make you feel any type of way about how you choose
to present yourself in the world.
Number two, of course, trans lives matter, the dolls matter
and what's going on right now with the legislation
is so aggressive, so of course we have to support
all of our trans brothers and sisters.
Number three, be unapologetically yourself
because, at the end of the day, the only person
who goes home and sits down and thinks to themselves,
I should have been a little bit louder,
I should have been a bit more this,
I should have been a bit more that, is you.
So make sure that every time that you enter
a room that you take up space and you're just
the biggest, boldest version of yourself.
Number four definitely has to be know your finances, ladies.
Don't be one of those people who just relies on their man,
thinks that they know what's going on.
Oh, I don't even know what this bill is, he, he, he.
That's how you end up in jail when he bloody does
some sort of scam and your signature's all over the papers
because you weren't paying attention to be clued up.
And number five has to be my mum's ultimate advice
that she gave me when I was just 14 years old
and got signed, which is,
These people are not your friends.
When you're working with people,
especially in an industry such as fashion,
you are ultimately seen as a commodity,
and you have to be very careful as to
who you consider to be a friend, and who you can trust.
And learn the difference between constructive criticism
and someone who just is trying to get you down.
I hope that these five rules will take you through life.
And yes, shout to the feminists, yes.
