Metro Detroit Cotton Candy Shop offers 50 flavors like Champagne, Apple Cider, Fruity Pebbles
SOUTH LYON, MI – You’ll find more than red and blue cotton candy at this new Michigan dessert shop. There are 50 different flavors to choose from, many of which are made with organic sugar and plant-based colors.
Spun Sugar Strait is located at 10630 Rushton Rd # 6 in the south of Lyon. Although the shop is new, owner Mandy Tamborini has been making these treats for years throughout the Detroit metro area.
“We opened here on September 3rd. I also have six vintage cotton candy mobile carts. That’s how I started, hosting events with the trolleys, “Tamborini told MLive with the sweet scent of flavored sugar filling her shop.” When I set up the commercial kitchen here, I had enough space to build this store. I was delighted to do that.
Some of the unusual flavors include champagne, s’mores, lime, fruity pebbles, lemonade, and banana. The two most popular with customers, its top sellers, are the Birthday Cake and the Blue Raspberry. Tamborini says she likes to get creative when she prepares more than 50 different flavors, including those in season.
“I like to put at least 20 different flavors on the table every day. I also make seasonal flavors like pumpkin, apple cider, and caramel apple. I love mixing new ones like mango chili to create something different. “
Tamborini says about 40 of the flavors are made with organic sugar and plant-based colors. She says 10 flavors are made with traditional ingredients.
“Organic is a little cleaner than sugar. When I do, I can see the difference. Herbal dyes are lighter. It’s not healthier, but people have allergies and people are allergic to dyes.
Spun Sugar Detroit also makes cotton candy cakes and sells an assortment of local goodies like cookies from Wine Cookies from Ferndale, marshmallows from Blu kitchen from Plymouth, honey from Bees in the D from Detroit, liquid nitrogen ice cream from Aruban gel from Farmington Hills, granola from Teffola from Metro Detroit, popcorn from Motor City Popcorn of Livonia and lemonade Beas Squeeze from Detroit.
“I just want this place to be fun. It’s a tough time right now. I want everyone to come here and enjoy a fun candy store.
